The Women’s Prison ICON covers Celia’s work in prisons, especially women’s prisons. Celia had a lot of experience working inside prisons. She was the first woman guard to work in a NZ male prison. She was an advocate for inmates for both men and women throughout NZ prisons.
She was also the manager for The Christchurch Women’s Prison. While there she identified, that for the effective management of men’s and women’s prisons, the structures needed to be different. She had hoped to create a better, more rehabilitating place for women inmates.
